Motivational Manufacturing Monday: Trends and Experiences from NPE 2015

Posted by George Korn on Mon, Mar 30, 2015 @ 02:11 PM

Last week, I was fortunate enough to attend the NPE 2015 tradeshow in Florida. With booths and displays covering one million square feet and more than 64,000 attendees throughout the event, the show was great. While being on your feet all day and then entertaining at night makes for a long week, it was still awesome to see all the different companies firsthand.

The most recognized brands in the world spend billions of dollars every year on their marketing efforts. You can imagine that they’re not executing by chance without a plan; they know exactly what those dollars will bring them in return. Housing Starts Declined 17.0 Percent in February
According to the Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, residential construction activity plummeted 17.0 percent in February. New housing starts was the slowest since January 2014, down from just over 1 million in January to nearly 900,000 in February. Despite the fall in both single-family and multi-family housing starts, housing permits in February increased slightly over the past month and the data seems to indicate that the sharp housing starts reduction in February might be temporary. U.S. Unemployment Rate Lowest Since May 2008
The United States unemployment rate fell to 5.5 percent in February, the lowest it has been since May of 2008. But the Bureau of Labor Statistics said that manufacturers added only 8,000 net new workers in January - significantly fewer workers than the past four months (October to January), which averaged 27,000 per month. This softening is consistent with recent manufacturing activity, including weaknesses in export markets, the West Coast ports slowdown and reduced energy prices. On a positive note, manufacturers have added to their workforce for 19 straight months. To read more, visit here.

Manufacturing ERP Provides the Tools You Need to Win

Posted by George Korn on Mon, Mar 09, 2015 @ 01:13 PM

I hope your Monday is treating you right today and you enjoyed your weekend. This past weekend, my family and I attended our little cousin's baseball game. We are trying to introduce our son to different sports to see what sticks. While at the game, I discovered that they don’t keep score or truly record any outs. The game is played so it protects everyone and every kid gets a chance to play the exact same amount. While I am strongly against bullying and making kids feel bad, I find that they are missing a crucial element to life. It is important to strive for a goal and try and win. Plus, when you lose, it is a great chance to learn.

Consumer Confidence Fell Sharply in February
The Conference Board reported that consumer sentiment declined in February from a revised 103.8 in January to 96.4 last month. January's increase was a significant one and the highest point for this measure since August 2007. February's easing brings the data back to a more consistent trend line. Still, the pullback in February was larger than expected and it suggests that the American public remains more anxious than desired. To read more, visit here.

Avoid Running Blind When Implementing a New ERP Solution

Posted by George Korn on Mon, Mar 02, 2015 @ 12:59 PM

For those of you who don’t know me, I am an avid runner and cyclist. I try to make time daily, early in the morning, to get in a run and on the weekends, I go for a long run or ride.  Since we moved to a new home recently, I am not nearly as familiar with the terrain and I am trying to pick my new routes.
