50 Shades of Manufacturing

Motivational Manufacturing MondaysNow that I have your attention - I had an awesome week at the MD&M West trade show in Anaheim and a wonderful time with my family for Valentine’s Day, but we did not see the 50 Shades of Grey movie. I did see at least 50 different clients and prospects at MD&M and heard about how IQMS has had a positive impact at their business.

Valentine’s Day at home was great because my wife and I did not go out alone, but we included our son in our plans while spreading happiness in our neighborhood. Meeting new neighbors is fun, but if you are not social (luckily I am), it is tough to meet new people even if they live just next door. My wife wanted to make our neighbors feel open to saying hello so she baked cupcakes for the entire neighborhood. We all went door-to-door handing out greetings and sweet treats. It certainly was fun and well received. Who doesn’t like a homemade cupcake delivered to your door!

The MD&M show was very much like this as well (OK, not the same, but it was great). We handed out candy and information at the booth the entire week so it was a little like Valentine’s Day. I was able to take a few minutes and visit with customers to see how things are going, while also meeting with new prospects to discover what we can do to help them improve. The buzz at the show was very positive with most saying that business has been on a steady rise and the future is looking bright. The buzz the last few years seemed to have far more doubt and trouble, so this was a welcome change.

We spoke to so many people that it is hard to distinguish just one experience. However, I did meet with an old customer whose company had been beaten up over the years and somehow weathered the storm to stay in business. They had several locations, all using IQMS, but then a change to their business, along with economic changes, almost busted them completely. Now they are back on track and they have used IQMS the entire time as a tool. They are now upgrading to the latest version and looking at adding on modules to help them improve their efficiencies even more!

That summed up the overall theme of the show. I would love to hear from any others who were in attendance about their experience. Let’s help motivate one another because if more of us are successful, it is better for our manufacturing community!
