I am fortunate to be able to call myself the Mom of a beautiful baby girl named Avery. Upon meeting her for the first time, many acquaintances compared her name to the label and office supply producer of the same moniker. Some even followed this parallel with a joke along the lines of: Well, that's a name that will "stick!" And even though I groaned at these jokes, they did later get me thinking about labels.

How do you find and win new business for your manufacturing plant? Do you rely on sales people making cold calls, a strong website with inbound marketing and SEO or customer referrals? Are you and your company going in the right direction? Or are you “dog-tracking,” as when the wheels on your car don’t square correctly with each other, and the steering and ride of the vehicle becomes erratic? Do you find it necessary to always steer one way or another, like tacking on a sailboat?

What do you consider real-time information? For some manufacturers, accurate data can only be acquired when a shift ends and the production reports are logged or the data from the shop floor is uploaded, resulting in an unfortunate up to eight hour "real-time" reality. For others, the real-time information range is shorter, spanning between four to six hours, depending on the design and technology limitations of their reporting software.
