The Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo and The Battery Show recently convened in Novi, Michigan and showcased best of breed technology for the alternative power segment of the automotive industry.
With more than 500 exhibitors representing everything from components, modules and systems to complete vehicles with innovative powertrains, the cutting edge of energy storage and power technology was on display.
Attendees could also check out a host of supporting equipment and service providers sharing ideas to help parts and system manufacturers develop, test and produce quality, state-of-the-art products.
IQMS had a booth, as well as two customers: Adventec (specializing in stamping, insert molding, welding and coating for sensors and control modules) and Rebling Power Connectors (high voltage and high current power cables that deliver high power).
Three automotive industry mega-trends were clear to all attendees at the show:
No. 1: Connected vehicles are the future, including their various forms of active driver assist systems for safety, autonomy, information and entertainment
No. 2: Weight reduction is a key initiative through the use of lightweight materials and new minimalist designs
No. 3: Electric and hybrid "clean" power is being used for propulsion and actuatorsOverall, as the United States and global markets demand improved affordable alternative powertrains, innovation will surely follow. This means that for many "classic" automotive and other industry suppliers, the volumes and opportunities are increasing and becoming more attractive in this growing vehicle segment.
